1. Check crond:

[info] Usage: /etc/init.d/cron {start|stop|status|restart|reload|force-reload}.

/etc/init.d/cron status;

2. crontab -u root -e;    you will be promted to select editor. follow it;

3. create ip_update.log & ip_update.log and chmod appropriately.
